Running rio on Windows 11
1. Get rio and run the install script
Clone the release as shown in the quick start. From that checkout, run in PowerShell:
powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\install-windows.ps1
The installer offers to install Tcl/Tk, verifies dependencies, and creates Start Menu and Desktop shortcuts. Open a new terminal afterwards to pick up PATH changes. Re-run it if you move the checkout.
2. The toolchain, if you'd rather do it by hand
If automatic installation fails:
winget install --exact --id Magicsplat.TclTk --source winget
Open a new terminal and re-run the rio installer. -VerifyOnly checks dependencies without installing them.
3. (Recommended) Turn on persistence
Persistence already works. The installer sets XDG_CONFIG_HOME to %USERPROFILE%\rio\config and XDG_DATA_HOME to %USERPROFILE%\rio\data; rio stores its files in a rio subdirectory under each. Without these variables it uses .config\rio and .local\share\rio under your home directory.
4. Launch
Use the Start Menu shortcut, or run from the checkout:
wish rio-gui/rio-gui.tcl

6. First-run check (this is the verification)
Open a file, edit and save it, then reopen it. If startup fails, run the installer with -VerifyOnly and use the reported dependency error. Include the version/build from Help ▸ About rio in a bug report.
